I have been asked: “Why did you start building carriages?” I would have to answer that I’ve had my eye on a type of steel bodied carriage for years. It fit well with my fabrication background and I was looking for a change. One I enjoyed!
Today it would be hard to design a carriage that has not been built at some period in the past. For that reason, Rogue Valley Carriage Shop has redesigned and built a type of carriage that works well in today’s driving conditions.
While researching this type of carriage, I discovered several problems with its design. In my effort to improve this carriage, I contacted several other carriage manufacturers around the United States, and included their concerns in my new design. I spent the last three years improving and building the carriages you see today.
This design includes:
- Sealing the open ends of the tubing to keep wasps from creating surprises while driving.
- Parts being available at carriage shops around the United States.
- Springs that are specifically manufactured for carriages
- High quality woods, like African mahogany and oak, to extend the life of the carriage.
- Seats filled with high density foam and covered with Naugahyde (durable to minus 50 degree F.)
- Stainless steel screws to mount wood to carriage, and brass screws for the whip stock, to prevent rusting.
- A floating rear step with double treads for lower and easier entrance into carriage that folds up and acts as a gate for small children.
- Metal parts that are double powder coated instead of painted.
- Wheels made by Amish manufacture.
In addition to its elegance and durability, this type of carriage is ideal for driving on secondary and rough roads.
0ur aim is to manufacture a good durable carriage to protect our customer’s investment.
